Master Control Room
In a scenario where there are many broadcast production studios within a facility or a broadcasting network, a Master Control Room (MCR) is typically a central hub that oversees and manages the distribution of content from various studios. The Master Control Room is responsible for coordinating multiple channels, ensuring smooth transitions between different programs, and managing the overall broadcast workflow.
Key functions of a Master Control Room include
Master Switching : The MCR is equipped with video switchers that allow operators to switch between different studio feeds or pre-recorded content. This is crucial for managing multiple channels or streams
Playout System : The MCR often controls the playback of pre-recorded content, commercials, and promotional material. This involves managing playlists and ensuring content airs at the scheduled times
Multiview : Operators in the MCR monitor incoming feeds from various production studios to ensure the quality and integrity of the broadcast. This includes video and audio monitoring
Logging : To track programs and investigate when incident happened

สถานีโทรทัศน์หลายๆสถานีมักจะมีสตูดิโอ และ ห้องควบคุมสตูดิโอหลายห้อง ดังนั้นจะต้องมีห้องควบคุมหลัก(MCR) เพื่อใช้ในการสำหรับการควบคุมการส่งสัญญาณการออกอากาศ ซึ่งห้อง MCR จะรับสัญญาณจากห้อง PCR/SCR แล้วเลือกสัญญาณไปออกอากาศ
MCR จะทำหน้าที่ควบคุมการสลับสัญญาณระหว่างรายการที่ผลิตในสตูดิโอ กับ คลิปโฆษณาที่ถูกร้อยเรียงในตามช่วงเวลา และทำหน้าที่ในการเผ้าดูสัญญาณการออกอากาศไม่ให้มีความผิดพลาดและเกิดความเสียหาย ถึงแม้ห้องนี้จะใช้เจ้าหน้าที่ทำงานไม่มาก แต่มักจะต้องทำงานตลอด 24 ชม. ในช่วงเวลาที่ไม่มีรายการถ่ายทดสด ก็ต้องคอยควบคุมตารางการออกอากาศอื่นๆ ตามผังรายการที่วางไว้
อุปกรณ์ที่ออกแบบเพื่อรองรับงานแบบ 24×7 จึงมีความสำคัญ ต้องมีเสถียรภาพสูง พร้อมทั้งต้องมีระบบสำรอง เพื่อให้มั่นใจว่าการออกอากาศต้องไม่มีความผิดพลาดแม้เพียงเสี้ยววินาที
องค์ประกอบ และรูปแบบการใช้งาน
Master Switcher : เป็นหัวใจสำคัญของห้อง master control เนื่องด้วย Master Switcher ทำหน้าที่หลักในการสลับสัญญาณโปรแกรมจากสตูดิโอ กับ รายการจาก Video playout ซึ่งหลักๆจะเป็นโฆษณาต่างๆ ตามผังรายการที่กำหนด การควบคุมจะต้องแม่นยำ ผิดพลาดไม่ได้ เนื่องจากเป็นอุปกรณ์สุดท้ายก่อนออกอากาศไปตามบ้านเรือน
Playout System : Server ที่จัดทำผังรายการในการออกอากาศตลอดทั้งวัน ทำงานตามตารางเวลาในแต่ละวันและมีความแม่นยำสูง มีความยืดหยุ่น สามารถแก้ไข แทรกรายการได้ตลอดเวลา รวมทั้งสามารถทำงานได้ทั้งแบบ manual และ automatic มีฟังก์ชั่นการทำงานที่หลากหลาย สามารถทำงานร่วมกับอุปกรณ์อื่นๆเป็นอย่างดี ตอบโจทย์การทำงานรูปบบต่างๆ มีให้เลือกทั้งแบบ all-in-one และ แบบ standalone
Multiviewer : ระบบมอนิเตอร์ ที่สามารถเลือกสัญญาณมาดูได้หลากหลายมีทั้งภาพและเสียง รวมทั้งมี alarm เตือนเมื่อเกิดการขาดหายของสัญญาณ โดยที่เจ้าหน้าที่สามารถควบคุมการดูภาพได้เอง
Logging : ระบบตรวจสอบสัญญาณ ซึ่งสามารถตรวจสอบสัญญาณได้ทั้งก่อนออกอากาศ และ หลังออกอากาศสามารถดูย้อนหลังเพื่อหาสาเหตุและการแก้ไขได้เป็นอย่างดี
